Diving on The Rosie Wreck, Gibraltar

Dive 1: Buckana Steel Barge

Guide: Tomas

This dive is a shore dive walking in of the beach and heading to the right. We reached a maximum depth of 22m and spent an hour in the water. Viz was pretty poor and it was very noisy under the water due to the engines running in the dozens of ships moored in the area.

The dive centres compressor has broken down, so it is lucky that we brought our own filled, bottles with us.

Saw some life, but not as much as we expected: Nudibranchs, Sea Feathers. Hervias, Big Octopus, Moray Eels and Flying Gurnard.

Dive 2: The Rosie, Sea Master & Bascha

Dive Guide: Tomas

These are 3 steel barges that have been sunk as artificial reefs in about 17 - 22m of water.

The water is entered by jumping off of a decaying dock wall. The wall is used by fishermen and would make a great lead dive as there are thousands of lead weights in the water where the lines have got tangled on the submerged litter.

We saw 2 very big spider crabs, shells about 2 feet across, leg span about 6 feet across.

We also saw pretty sea urchins, octopusses, a scallop hopping across the sea bed, star fish, scorpion fish, Hervias, Nudibranchs and Flatworms.
