Day 12
Our journey back to the airport started with the news that the main and only road was washed out by flooding.
We carried on to the place where the bridge had been destroyed and were met by a traffic jam and hundreds of people milling around trying to work out what to do. John was talking to other guides over his radio and heard that there was a way through the river. We set off along bumpy and waterlogged farmers tracks running beside the river until we came across a group of young guys laying branches through the river. We managed to get across then follow the river back to the road where we met huge jams of traffic waiting to cross the river the other way.
We picked up one of the other drivers for the safari company and also a young guy who was heading to Nairobi for a job interview.
When we reached Nairobi, we dropped off the other 2 passengers and headed to a restaurant for lunch. Lunch was in one of the most popular restaurants in town, serving as much meat as you can eat all for a fixed price the prices here are so high that the customers were almost all people from other countries.
