Day Four and five we are off to Amboseli. Every day now John tests me on the names of the animals and birds that we see. I have also borrowed one of his critter ID books so that I can learn more by myself. On our way to the next resort and game reserve we made a stop at Mzima Springs. This is where pathways are made from Hippos walking back and forth doing the same routine and where the waters are crystal clear so you can see crocodiles and very blue fish. Alex was our guide for this little walk through the wilderness. He has a gun that protects us from any animal that might think we are lunch but after asking him he has never had to use it. There were hippos resting (which to me look like giant rocks in the water). There was a monitor lizard resting in the sun and when we came to a resting area there was a few crocodiles on the bank and one crocodile decided he didn’t like the other and scared him off the bank into the water. There were hippos playing in the distance having fun in the water. As we continued on the path we saw this Rock Hyrax, which is a very cute animal. There were monkeys playing in the trees and eagles soaring overhead. This is where they made an underwater sitting area to watch the hippos in the water and when they built it the hippos didn’t like it and stayed away from it. So now when you sit in there you can now only see the fish that swim in the waters.
As we left the Springs there was a commotion of giraffes, zebras and impalas running towards us very fast but even though the animals were afraid of something we could not see what the something was. There was a short cut to the next resort but because of the rains it had been washed away so we had to add a couple hours onto our journey to get to our next resting area. The next area we are sleeping is Kibo Safari Camp. This lies at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro and is very beautiful. We were sleeping in “tents” here. HA tents….. you have a zipper like a tent and when you enter you have a gorgeous Queen size bed, and in this tent the bathroom is stunning with a secluded toilet and a warm shower and you can have 4 people in this area comfortably. These “tents” have a keeper that while you eat dinner they go in and get your bed ready with lighting so you can see when you enter. Everyone was so helpful and very kind.
