The next day we were leaving the lodge but not before we had a breakfast and while we were eating a friendly giraffe wandered into the picnic area to have a sniff. She didn’t get to close so no one was afraid. We are on our way to Crater Lake today and I seem to be feeling a bit better. Crater Lake is hidden inside Kenya’s Great Rift Valley. Most of the farms and houses in the area are still owned by British families and there is a huge amount of fresh flower farms that are sent to the UK for sale. As we started our 2 hours walk we made it to the top and I started to feel ill again. I knew I wouldn’t make the walk so I had to send the guide and David on their way around the lake and I had to make my way back down to sit at the restaurant. David saw load of lizards at the rim of the crater, then they went down to the grasslands and walked beside herds of Zebra and water buffalo. They also saw lots of other antelope and deer. The resort staff took good care of me, supplying me with water and juice. While I was sitting there I watched a Colobus Monkey in the tree and birds playing in the water. A hummingbird ate lunch next to me on the food from the flowers. It was a relaxing few hours waiting for David to return. I also witnessed a cheeky monkey! The restaurant was only me there so the staff was just chatting and laughing and waiting on me hahaha but I turned to see a monkey opening a cupboard and trying to take the ketchup and sauces. I really wanted to watch him but I had to let one of the staff know so they could shoo him out of the restaurant hahaha
We stayed and had lunch when David returned and then started on our way to our next lodge which was Sopa Lodge in Lake Nakuru. I really started going downhill. I had to stay laying down along the back of the van and by the time I got to the lodge I had a fever and I thought I was dying. The lodge got me a doctor right away and she said she wasn’t too sure what it could be but it was a high chance I had eaten some bad meat. She put me on medication right away and I feel asleep for a little while before dinner. This lodge was absolutely amazing. We sat on the balcony and watched the buffalo eating and drinking below us. Our rooms were at the bottom of a very long and steep climb, so the staff would come and get us in a large golfing cart for meals or when we wanted to come up to the main lodge. The staff were very friendly and everyone was concerned with my well-being. I didn’t eat dinner that night but still was able to sit and enjoy the company of John and David before heading back to bed.
The room here was fantastic, it was a cottage on the side of a hill, one wall was just glass with a balcony looking out over the game reserve. We had 2 queen sized beds and the bathroom was a good 5m by 5m with a huge walk-in shower.
