Day 9 - Heading South
About halfway on our journey there were police everywhere stopping people but we had fallen asleep. The policeman noticed I was laying across the back seats (with no seatbelt) and John was telling him it’s because I was sick (the chips didn’t help as much as I thought). John got out to talk to the officer and handed him 1000 shillings which the officer just put in his pocket and sent us on our way. It’s all about corruption here and he really didn’t care I wasn’t wearing a seatbelt he just wanted paying.
This journey now hit soft roads with the worst bumps ever and we had about 2 hours more to get to our resort. Oh boy when you are feeling bad these roads are not good for you. I just hung on and hoped we got there quick. We were now in Maasai Mari. We were staying at Osero Lodge and this place was fantastic. We were the only guests here for our last 3 nights and that is because it was raining a lot (mostly at night) and washing roads away so other guests were not able to get in. We had another “tent” hahaha We walked in there were 2 king size beds, a jacuzzi for your bathtub and a separate shower. The bed turn down service would go in at night and pull the sheets back and place hot water bottles inside to warm up the sheets. Well we found that out the hard way. David had gotten ready for bed and jumped in before me, he screamed and jumped out really fast. Why? What’s going on? Well the hot water bottles are furry and we were not told bottles would be under the sheets. David thought …… ANIMAL! Ha it was so funny to watch
We have so many people looking after us here, our driver, a chef, the room staff, the guards, the front of house staff, the fence walkers making sure no animals came into the resort. The fence is an electric fence, but it appears to be turned off as we saw one of the fence walkers leaning on it! We know we have lions and elephants just outside the camp as we can hear them moving and communicating. Our guards are Masai wearing traditional robes who walk with us between buildings, as it is not safe to be alone.
Day 10
The next day I finally woke up feeling so much better but now David appears to have caught whatever bug I had, so he was unable to go on the game drive. He stayed in bed all day and the staff kept checking on him bringing him some food and making sure he was ok. So, I went out early and was gone for the day on a game drive without David. It was sad because today I saw EVERYTHING…. Lions, Cheetahs hunting, Leopard in a tree and so many birds and Elephants. It was truly amazing but it wasn’t the same without David. Returning back to the camp David was still in bed but feeling a little better. He came out for dinner but didn’t eat (well maybe some bread) and then returning for a good night’s sleep as the next day was our balloon ride and I for sure didn’t want to do that without him.
